Strange fruit - Summary

The poem "Strange Fruit" was written by Abel Meeropol and later performed by Billie Holiday in 1939 is about fruits, which symbolize black bodies, hanging on a tree that nobody wants.

In the first stanza, you can read in the three verses that strange fruit is hanging from poplar trees in the South and blood is running down the tree.

Next, the second stanza is mainly about the smell and look of the black bodies on the trees, while in contrast, the author is describing how nice, how beautiful the South is.

In the end, in the third stanza, the author states that nobody cares about the fruit and they rot in the sun and drop from the trees.

All in all, the author says that no one cares about the strange fruit which hangs from the trees in the South.
